Christmas in Denmark was great! It was very different not having my family and cousins and craziness. I've been slightly homesick for that reason but I know how to handle it and am getting rid of it pretty quickly. It doesn't really vanish completely, but hovers. Sometimes it's visible over your shoulder and other times it's hiding right behind you. Anyway, though it was different without my family, I really enjoyed a smaller Christmas. My host family decorated the house and it was so nice to see all of the decorations everyday. Danish Christmases are a bit more traditional than in the US. One big difference between Danish and American Christmases is that here they open gifts on the 24th. Overall I really did love my Christmas here. It was difficult being away from my family but the way I was included in the festivities really helped me to look past holiday homesickness, at least to a certain extent. That really meant a lot to me and I am thankful to my host family and rotary and everyone else who included me.
New Years was equally as nice. My host parents had their annual party and had about 15 people over. I stayed for a delicious dinner and had a great time. The house was decorated again and I felt very welcomed. I can't imagine why...
Around 9:30 I left to go to a friend's party that I was invited to. It was a lot of fun, especially when the fireworks started! I am definitely not used to as many fireworks as that in winter. I have a video, but there were so many fireworks and I couldn't tell which were ending and which were just starting.
All in all, I had an awesome holiday season.
Lately I've been Skyping with friends, more than I did earlier this year. It's been a lot of fun talking to you guys, Kyra, Mike, Michaela, Liz, Hayley, Emily, and everyone else.
